中学1年 Our First Week as Global Learners!

So the Global English Course has started off well.. We did a series of activities to create a warm teaching and learning environment for all students and teachers. We started off the week with a series of team building activities. We played a `Trust` game that involved one student pushing against another student with palms touching each other. At different points the students had to `trust` the other person to prevent him/her from falling. We reflected on the need to cooperate and trust each other to make learning fun and interactive. We also use this game to teach them the importance of listening and speaking in turns.
We also introduced ourselves in English and share our hobbies, favorite sports and other things that we like. The students were at first nervous and shy at speaking but they eventually garnered confidence to speak in front of their peers and teachers. We introduced the students to the KWL Chart ( K- What you KNOW? W- What you WANT to learn? L- What do you want to LEARN?) the students answered those questions about India and shared their ideas in writing and speaking. The read a text in English and record the things that they learn from the reading of the text.
For Interactive English we focused on `Situational English` students had to assume roles as Doctors and Patients. They asked each questions about their health and the doctors gave advice as to how they can get better. We are really impressed with the attitude of the students and how enthused they are towards learning English and we are equally enthused to help them along the way.
